Phospholipids As Functionals
Emulsifiers not only define the stability of cosmetic formulations but also contribute greatly to their sensorial profile and overall perception. Ideally, an emulsifier should both enable stable emulsions with a great skin feel and, at the same time, moisturize and protect the skin. Our hydrogenated phospholipids offer all these benefits. Hydrogenated phospholipids as sole emulsifiers will tolerate oil loading levels up to 40 % at a use level of 3 %; at a use level of 1 % they will still allow up to 25 % oil loading.
They are easy to use in various formulations and require no special conditions (temperature or shear power) or equipment. Hydrogenated phospholipids will form stable emulsion in a pH range from 4 to 8, they are perfectly combinable with a broad range of co-emulsifiers, thickeners, emollients, preservatives, and actives. Additionally, the use of only small amounts of hydrogenated phospholipids will result in a significant improvement of the skin feel, leaving the skin with an extremely pleasant and smooth touch. Our SLM Skin Lipid Matrix® technology offers a cream matrix based on hydrogenated phosphatidylcholine from sunflower or soy, enriched with a unique combination of essential skin lipids. Thanks to its high content of highly purified phosphatidylcholine and a special manufacturing process, lamellar structures are present in our SLM range that resemble the structure of the lipid matrix of the stratum corneum.
Because of this three-dimensional lamellar network, the cream matrix is stable without the use of synthetic emulsifiers, and an unwanted wash-out of skin lipids is prevented. SLM-based formulations are therefore perfectly suitable for dermo-cosmetics and natural cosmetics meeting the highest demands.
