Improving Our Carbon Footprint

A key goal is to improve our CO₂ footprint. By optimizing our processes and investing in efficient technologies, we maximize our energy efficiency while taking responsibility for minimizing our CO₂ footprint.

Optimizing our energy efficiency is our top priority. We use 100 % green electricity (mainly water power) and energy-saving technologies.

In 2010, we partnered with the Swiss Energy Agency for Industry (EnAW) to establish an energy efficiency plan. By implementing this plan, we have directly reduced our carbon footprint. Each year, within the 10-year action plan, we executed specific energy efficiency measures and reported the results to EnAW. In 2021, we extended the plan for another 10 years, setting new energy efficiency and CO₂ reduction targets, which are reviewed annually.

One of our key goals is to continuously improve our carbon footprint. By optimizing processes and investing in energy-efficient technologies, we are working to increase energy efficiency and actively reduce our CO₂ emissions. We have been reporting our carbon footprint for many years in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol. Since 2024, we have expanded our reporting to also include Scope 3 emissions, in addition to Scope 1 and 2.

As part of our commitment to climate protection, we work with myclimate and contribute financially to a climate protection project based on our calculated emissions in Scope 1, 2 and 3.3. For over ten years, we have contributed to the Gold Standard project “Substitution of open fireplaces with energy-efficient cooking stoves”. This project equips households in Kenya with efficient stoves, replacing traditional open fireplaces. The result: improved health, reduced household costs, and a meaningful contribution to the prevention of deforestation in the region.
