The Sourcing Story of Moringa Seed Cake

Moringa oleifera, known as the ‘Miracle Tree’ or ‘Tree of Life’, is highly nutritious and cultivated in arid regions like Rwanda. Its leaves, rich in vitamins, proteins and minerals, are used to combat malnutrition, while its seeds provide oil prized for skin care and cooking due to its antioxidants and stability at high temperatures. After oil extraction, only 15 % of the seed is used, leaving behind the Moringa seed cake, a by-product with untapped potential.

Lipoid Kosmetik repurposes this seed cake to create MorinGuard®, an innovative cosmetic active ingredient. This upcycling process not only reduces waste but supports Rwanda’s local communities. The company’s social impact model connects over 1’500 smallholder farming families to international markets, providing a stable income.
