The BSB Innovation Award Environment honors innovations in cosmetics and natural products that demonstrate significant positive environmental and social impact, making the recognition particularly meaningful for Cashew Apple Pro and its upcycling concept.
Cashew Apple Pro gives new purpose to an overlooked by-product of cashew nut production. Although the cashew apple represents around 90 % of the fruit’s total weight, it is rarely utilized commercially due to its high perishability. Lipoid Kosmetik transforms this underused resource into a premium cosmetic extract, thereby helping to reduce food waste while creating additional value from an existing agricultural side stream. The organic cashew apples are fairly traded and responsibly sourced in Burkina Faso. The local supplier collaborates with more than 5’500 farming families, supporting fair working conditions, ethical trade practices and socio-economic development.
Beyond its sustainability story, Cashew Apple Pro combines environmental responsibility with proven cosmetic performance. The product provides excellent skin hydration while supporting firmness, elasticity and a refined, revitalized skin appearance. In vivo studies demonstrated immediate and lasting moisturization, with Cashew Apple Pro outperforming the hyaluronic acid benchmark in the investigated study conditions. Further testing showed improvements in skin firmness, elasticity, texture, smoothness.
